The Research and Demonstration Program on Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) Technical Systems in Beijing’s Miyun Reservoir Watershed was launched On February 25.

The program, funded by Beijing Scientific Committee and led by Beijing Forestry Society and Beijing Forestry University, is aimed to finish forest landscape zoning and planning, to develop restoration techniques for different forest landscape units and mechanism for payment for ecosystem services, and to establish forest landscape restoration demonstration areas, in the watershed area of the Miyun Reservoir which is the largest man-made lake in northern China and provides over two thirds of the drinking water supply for Beijing, in order to provide technical support and demonstration for sustainable watershed management and improve ecological conservation functions of the Miyun Reservoir Watershed. Expected outputs include technical guidelines on FRI in the watershed, 2000 mu of demonstration areas for forest management techniques, 1 km of demonstration areas for ecological restoration of small water bodies, 2 demonstration areas for low-carbon communities, and 500 mu of demonstration areas for agroforestry.
