German Delegation Visited BFS Project Site in Miyun County

On October 14, 2013, a delegation from Frankfurt visited BFS’s project site in Huayuan Village, Xinchenzi Township, Miyun County, which is in the northeast of Beijing. BFS staff introduced the project background, objectives and implementation to the delegates. The project is named “Livelihood and Landscapes Strategy (LLS) Better livelihoods, forests and watersheds in Miyun County”. The initiative is a joint partnership between BFS and IUCN China liaison office. The project components include forest landscape restoration, livelihood development and small water body restoration.

During the visit, the delegates went to a farmer’s house and to see the innovative hypocaust improved by the project. The device is of high energy efficiency and environmentally friendly. Later BFS staff showed them around the forests where management measures were implemented. The close-to-nature forest management enhanced the eco-system services and help improved the water conservation of the area. The delegates were impressive by the social and economic benefits of the project. The delegation was formed by a group of 18 people coming from the areas of environment, culture, education and finance. They were in China on a 2-week visit for getting knowledge and understanding of China and Promoting friendship between people of the two countries.
